Race Report
On Sunday May 16th, 18 teams competed in the first adventure race in Philadelphia. The AFC Adventure Challenge attracted new and experienced teams alike, and helped raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.

Racers were put to the test with a 100 meter swim with full gear. Following that they ran and orienteered for about 8 miles before reaching the obstacle course area. Teams had to complete the cargo net challenge, a blind person serpentine course, and a low crawl.

Then they were off on their bikes to the rope traverse area. After zipping across the line, they jumped back on their bikes for about 35 miles of road biking, with team challenges along the way.

Teams enjoyed the technical mountain biking in the largest urban park in the country. But the fun didn't end there. After the mountain bike section, they stopped into our local sponsor "The Trail Boss Outfitters", grabbed a Red Bull and were off for 8 miles of canoe paddling.

The paddle ended, but the race directors could not resist offering the teams a photo op. on top of the Philadelphia Art Museum steps. They then jumped back on their bikes and off to the finish line.

The race was organized by Bill and Anne Gibbons, co-founders of GOALS Adventure Racing Association. We were pleased with the turnout, and were able to provide a challenging course for experienced racers, as well as new teams.

We'd like to thank all the racers and volunteers who put so much work into making this a successful event.

The fun never ends for us though. We're getting ready for The Cradle of Liberty: A 24 hour adventure race July 3-4. This race is in the Philadelphia area again, but is a completely different course than the May event. Grab your friends and come on out to Philly!
